Reb T (born 1995, Edinburgh) is a provocative Scottish artist working in the expanded field of painting; encompassing performance, film and sculpture in her identity-focused practice.

Reflecting on modern communication, the patterns in Reb T’s paintings take inspiration from the repetitive format of social media platforms. Modern technology creates a distancing in communication - it is done online rather than in person. Reb T uses stencils to create repeat motifs within her work. Each layer of paint reduces the visibility of the initial stencil, creating a subtletly that re-invites the intimacy lost.

The repetition of this task reflects that of performance action; Reb T’s labour of creating lost intimacy manifests itself through her paintings. Pop culture weaves through Reb T’s work through direct replication as seen in ‘Club Paradise’ and ‘NARCISSUS’ and indication through titles. ‘Good 4 You’, ‘In my Head’, directly take their names from pop princesses Olivia Rodriguez and Ariana Grande respectively. These titles are the only indication of circumstances in which the current body of work were created.

Performance enhances the painting aspect of this multimedia project:

“I want to make the world more interesting than my problems. Therefore, I have to make my problems social. Whatsapp messages - better than sex. Reading them delivers on the promise that sex raises but hardly ever can fulfil - getting larger cause you're entering another person's language, cadence, heart and mind. Performing these messages for a social sphere only makes them more interesting”.
