‘Place’ is something that has always influenced my photographs, how people in isolated places are affected by their social and natural landscapes. The process of curation, and placing images together in order to tell the story of a landscape is fascinating to me, and is something I have explored in my most recent project “Ode to Home”.I am eternally influenced by Ireland and rural communities, being half Irish, and as a child coming to Ireland, it formed most of my childhood recollections, with quite a nostalgic sheen. While it is not alien to me, I still would consider myself an outsider, which allows me to have a removed outlook on a subject, everything is unique in some way, neat grass in a walled garden, a rosary on the roadside, women running together towards the sea. Above all, I have observed an atmosphere of ‘belonging’ in rural communities, belonging to a place, but most compellingly, to other people. The natural rhythms of normal life, to me, are extraordinary, little things that should be remembered.
